Housing affordability improved in July from June

There’s some welcome news for anyone keeping an eye on the housing market: July brought a noticeable improvement in housing affordability across much of Canada. Home prices dropped in 10 out of 13 major markets—including Vancouver, Hamilton, and Regina—which means the income needed to qualify for a mortgage has eased back a bit. While mortgage rates did see a slight decrease, it’s really the shift in prices that’s making the biggest difference for buyers right now.
